The Highlands

The brief was to create an area for hosting large family gatherings while retaining the country charm and native wilderness of the neighbourhood. Drought tolerant, pollinator friendly plants were the primary focus to compliment the very hot slope, as well as planting more trees for needed shade. Wishlist items included a basketball court, a more formalized parking area, and a permanent gazebo and BBQ area. Along with these areas, a formal allée of ornamental cherry trees runs the length of the driveway, and large flowering borders along the slope lead to the permanent entertaining area. Care was taken with materials to remain as sustainable as possible and to help remedy the drainage issues along the driveway.
